District 214 Hosts First Startup Showcase — a Shark Tank-Type Event for Entrepreneurship Curriculum

Last week, District 214 hosted their first Startup Showcase — a Shark Tank-type event with entrepreneurship students.

The District 214 future business moguls – from Elk Grove and Wheeling High Schools – pitched business proposals and competed for prizes and internship opportunities.

The top three teams from Wheeling and Elk Grove faced off Tuesday in front of the panel, which included Wheeling Mayor Dean Argiris and Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson.

Both schools launched a new entrepreneurship curriculum this year, challenging students to develop and test business models. Throughout the year, local partners with professional roots in a variety of areas – from marketing and branding to finance and business development – were co-teaching alongside District 214 teachers to deliver relevant entrepreneurship education.

The District 214 entrepreneurship curriculum will expand to Buffalo Grove, Hersey and Rolling Meadows High Schools next fall.
