Animal Cruelty Case: Goose Hit in the Head with Board in Unincorporated Arlington Heights on Bonhill Dr

Cook County Sheriff’s police received a report on or shortly after Tuesday April 28, 2015 near an unincorporated apartment complex, Bonhill Drive and Crystal Lane Arlington Heights, IL. A male goose is recovering at Fox Valley Wildlife Center after reportedly being beaten by teenagers in unincorporated Arlington Heights near Lake Cook Road and Route 53.

Wildlife specialist Laura Kirk said the goose was protecting his family, when teens hit him in the head with a board last week on Bonhill Drive, south of Lake Cook Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights.

The family of geese consisted of a mother, father, four goslings, and two eggs, which will are expected not to hatch.

Bird rescue volunteers transported the whole goose family to the Fox Valley Wildlife Center in Elburn, Illinois.

The male goose suffered head trauma with swelling and neurological damage, and was observed having difficulty walking.

The father goose and his family are expected to be released back into the wild in the next few weeks.

The teens who attacked the goose have not been caught and no descriptions of the teens were available. The animal cruelty crime took place in the jurisdiction of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department.
