The Arlington Heights Police Department and the Village of Arlington Heights announced last week that they are pleased to announce a partnership with personal safety solution provider, LifeLine Response. This morning the Arlington Heights Police Department hosted a workshop that introduced how the Lifeline Response app works.

In the coming weeks residents, businesses and schools will receive information on how the LifeLine Response app works, which police say puts the latest mobile safety technology in the hands of everyone in the community. The Village of Arlington Heights and the police department hope the new partnership will put the latest mobile safety technology in the hands of residents, business owners, students, as well as visitors of Arlington Heights.

The company that produces LifeLine Response, Clandestine is based locally and approached the Village of Arlington Heights claiming they have the intent of allowing the over 75,000 residents and visitors access to the newest innovation in personal safety. Arlington Heights Police Department will be able to manage a centralized Command Portal that provides access to all activity occurring within the LifeLine Response app user community.

For the police, the app and the information provided by app users, delivers an additional source of information for crime prevention analysis and police response planning in the community.

For app users, LifeLine Response puts two critical tools in the hands of citizens, and when utilized, these tools will allows users to:

1) alert authorities in emergencies about critical situations without a phone call, and has the potential to increase first-responder effectiveness, decrease Arlington Heights Police Department response times, and

2) allow immediate notification of crime or unsafe activity in an area as reported by citizens in the community.

Police remind users that — when possible — a 9-1-1 phone call is still the first choice for notifying police. The LifeLine Response app provides and additional method for notifying police in certain situations.

By downloading LifeLine Response to an Apple iPhone or Android smartphone (www.llresponse.com/download), citizens are provided 24/7 professional monitoring. In the event of an emergency when dialing 911 is not possible, activating the LifeLine Response panic button will notify first-responders of a users physical description and will report the exact GPS coordinates of the mobile phone.

The Arlington Heights Police Department stated last week — in a release about the workshop — that they are committed to the safety and protection of all the citizens that they serve. In the release, the Arlington Heights police stated they value the partnership with LifeLine Response, which they report has nationally resulted in saving nine people from attacks. Arlington Heights police also stated they believe it is a product that will impact the overall safety of the community.

LifeLine Response is a tool that supports preventative policing and the company claims it will change the way residents think about public safety.

The minimum requirements for the app are iOS 8 or higher and an Apple iPhone with an active mobile phone subscription and data plan. GPS functionality must be enabled to provide the 24/7 Response Center with the users location and the availability to respond to user’s Distress Alert.

The app is FREE for 45 days, but then a subscription fee is required. A 1-Year Renewal is $9.99.

A one-month renewal is $4.99.

Users are NOT automatically charged during the trial period; the first 45 days are completely free.

Anytime during the free trial period, users have the option to renew by purchasing an in-app auto-renewable monthly subscription for $4.99. It is not clear whether the first renewal can be a yearly renewal or whether the first renewal must be a monthly renewal.

The user’s subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.

The users account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal

Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user’s Account Settings after purchase.

Clandestine is also working on a prototype drone response that can be used to respond to emergencies. The drone would not be used for surveillance, but would be able to respond to an activation of the LifeLine Response app. The drone, which is capable of responding at high speed to a crime in progress, could possibly record video at the emergency and announce that police are on the way while following the GPS signal of the victim.

If the drone prototype concept is implemented, police departments would purchase the drones and would manage the drones and the response of the drones. Currently, the Arlington Heights Police Department is not considering a drone, and emphasized the drone would not be a surveillance drone.

Officials from about 15 police departments and media representatives attended the workshop that introduced the Lifeline Response app for smart phones at Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters Monday morning.
