February 2015: Florida mom burns down home of convicted child-killer
Following live fire house fire training for firefighters at a vacant house in Orange Park, Florida; Diena Thompson got to finish off the house by igniting the final flames that would destroy the house.
The vacant home was the crime scene where Somer Thompson was killed 5 years ago. The house was burned to the ground Thursday afternoon, following firefighter training. Officially, the single-story home was burned for firefighter training, but unofficially the final fire served as a catharsis for the victim’s mother, family, and neighbors.
Convicted killer Jared Harrell, 29, is serving a life sentence for the murder of Somer Thompson.

March 2010 (Five months after the murder): The only person of interest in the case of slain 7-year-old Somer Thompson has been officially charged Friday with premeditated murder in connection with her death.
October 2009: The 7-year-old’s mother, Diena Thompson, warns the child killer to watch out.
Thursday February 12, 2015: Diena Thompson helped set fire to the Orange Park, Florida home where her daughter was held hostage, raped, and killed six years ago Thursday. The final destruction of the house was part of a training exercise for the local fire department. “Burn, baby, burn,” she said as the house went up in flames.
