Ask Paul B: End of an Era

#ad▼

Dear Paul B Readers,

This is about an incredible woman who has completed the end of her “journey.” This woman happens to have been my mother. She passed on the 10th of December in Park Ridge. She was 92. The youngest of nine from Europe, she was a survivor, a friend, an Aunt, a wife, a sister, a “Bubby/Grandma,” and my Mom. It comes as no surprise that she was there for her entire family of nine brothers, sisters, and respective spouses. Her brother-in-laws were no different than her siblings, she was there for all sixteen of them. Mom was special, because she wanted to be there for us, always. If we were sad, she would be there to cheer us up. When my sis was diagnosed with a rare and vicious disease, Mom took her everywhere to find a cure. Her journey for Sharon ended at the Cleveland Clinic in 1976, when Sharon was only 25. Mom pressed on, and on, and on.

Dad passed in ’85, and he was only 59, but Mom persevered. I have never seen a woman with more energy, generosity, and courage, only equaled by my sister and her faith.

Mom passed in her sleep, quietly, with no fan-fare, not a single luminary at her side. She was a simple woman, and had finally run her last race…She was the last of a generation and a “star” whose light continues to shine brightly forevermore. I am proud to be her son. I hope that we can all celebrate her life this holiday season. She will be remembered for the many sacrifices and the love that she generated to everyone that knew her.

Hug your Mom (and your Dad,) and don’t forget that tomorrow is but a gift…no guarantees.

Happy Holidays
— Paul B.
