NBC’s Brian Williams: Baby Hippo Born To Mom On Birth Control.

A newborn baby hippo is the first to be born at the Los Angeles zoo in 26 years. The birth on Halloween came as a surprise because the mother, Mara, was on birth control. Mara, age 10, came to Los Angeles from Topeka, Kansas, in December and instantly bonded with the baby hippo’s father Adhama, who is 3-years-old.

The baby hippo doesn’t have a name yet.

On Halloween day, October 31, 2014, the Los Angeles Zoo’s female hippopotamus, Mara, went into labor and gave birth to a healthy calf 2.5 hours later.
