UPDATE: Teen Charged with Aggravated Arson After His Family’s House Fire on Stratford, Prospect Heights
Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:33 AM Monday to a report of a house fire at 1201 North Stratford Rd Prospect Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that people were trapped in a house fire.
Police were first on the scene and attempted a rescue with a report that a 14-year-old boy was still in the house in an upstairs bedroom. Firefighters were unable to locate the 14-year-old Hersey High School student in the house, and were investigating personal contacts and searching the area for the teen. He was found safe in Arlington Heights by about 8:40 a.m.
Police requested an ambulance to the front of the house by about 3:45 a.m.
Fire command requested extra firefighters with a box alarm by 3:47 a.m. with staging at Rand Road and Stratford Road.
At about 4:07 a.m. Prospect Heights police requested three more ambulances to evaluate and treat three police officers for smoke inhalation.
At least one person was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
There are no fire hydrants on the street in Prospect Heights. Firefighters had to connect to fire hydrants in Arlington Heights at Oakton Street and Gibbons Avenue and at Rand Road and Stratford Road.
Prospect Heights firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Mount Prospect, North Maine, Northbrook, Northfield, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Wheeling.
Staging at H.O.M.E. Bar parking lot 1227 North Rand Road and along Rand Road, which was closed until about 6:00 a.m.
