UPDATE: The Nik Wallenda and his crew are checking the safety of the high wire which is actually at a higher grade than orginally planned — 19 degrees instead of 15 degrees from the Marina City West Tower to the Leo Burnett building.

High winds Friday also caused postponement of the event by one day. On Sunday last minute safety checks were underway. The cable has to be just the right tension so that it doesn’t waver too much.

SKYSCRAPER LIVE WITH NIK WALLENDA to air Live in Over 220 Countries Around the World Beginning at 7 PM ET/6 PM CT/4 PM PT, Sunday, Nov. 2 on the Discovery Channel and Hosted by NBC News’ Willie Geist, Natalie Morales and The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore.

Countdown to Skyscraper: Live from Chicago begins at 5:00 p.m.

Nik Wallenda announced in April 2014 that he was scouting skyscrapers in Chicago, Illinois for an upcoming televised tight walk event for the Discovery Channel. Fast forward to today as Wallenda plans to walk the wire from Marina City West to the Leo Burnett Building at elevation of 500 feet over the streets of Chicago. Then he will cross the street to the Marina City East Tower to the West Tower completely blindfolded.

From his earliest memories of walking the wire at two-years-old to his next great walk on November 2, 2014, Nik Wallenda explains why skyscrapers were always in his future.

See Skycraperlive.com for Nik’s progress as he attempts to walk from Marina City’s West Tower to the Leo Burnett Building at an incline of greater than 15 degrees. Statistics on the Skyscraperlive.com include elapsed time on the wire and weather conditions with wind speed. At 4:15 p.m. the air temperature was 53°F and the wind speed was 14 mph.
