Standing water is obstructing traffic at Hintz east Arlington Heights Road and near the intersection of Hintz and Windsor. Also the intersection of Thomas and Waterman has reports of flooding with stalled cars. Fire departments are also responding to flooded basements where high water is threatening electrical safety.
TUESDAY UPDATE:
About 2-4 inches of rain was recorded in the northern Cook County area. This storm started as a thin line drawn from Wisconsin to the northwest suburbs at about 8:00 p.m., but as it was moving from the west to east, it ballooned into a massive and wide coverage area storm. The heaviest rain fell between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., but rain continued until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The flooding was aggravated by fallen leaves and newly fallen leaves that were stripped from trees during high winds and blocking drain openings. Public Works crews worked through the night to clear drainage areas and relieve flooding, while police departments helped people recover their stalled cars. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issues by the National Weather Service, but no tornado watches or warnings were issued.
