UPDATE: Shooter and a female are reported dead. The shooter was identified as Jaylen Fryberg, a freshman who was selected as “homecoming prince” two weeks ago, shot five people in the head.

A student with a gun shot at least six students at Marysville Pilchuck High School near Seattle, Washington. One student is reported to have been transferred to Level I Trauma Center Harborview Medical Center — the only adult and pediatric trauma center in Washington. Three students are at Providence Regional Medical Center — a Level 2 Trauma Center. All three were in surgery Friday afternoon.

The school went to lockdown after shots were reported at approximately 10:45 am.

The shooting was reported to have occurred in the cafeteria.

The shooter is reported to have killed himself, which has been confirmed. Police confirmed that the shooter was a student, but did not confirm the gender.

Student witness Jordan Luton, a high school freshman, witnessed the shooting. Luton said the student did not say anything. He came up behind Luton’s table and then shot at people at the table. He appeared to target specific people at the table. Luton said he fired about six shots inside the cafeteria and then shot three or four more shots outside the cafeteria — what the student classified as “outside.” He said the shooter, who he knew, looked straight at him, and then turned away and continued shooting.

Police were checking each room of the school as students were seen walking calmly outside with the hands up.

Arlington and Lake Stevens police assisted Marysville Police Department.

The population of Marysville, Washington is about 60,020 and is located in Snohomish County about 30 miles north of Seattle.

Marysville-Pilchuck High School has a large campus with an enrollment of about 2500 students. The police have an onsite school resource officer, and have practiced active shooter drills at the school. Police could not confirm whether he was on school ground when the shooting occurred.
