Scott Peters, age 52, was arrested this afternoon after a manhunt that began after 1:30 a.m. this morning after Peters allegedly gunned down two McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies about 1:16 a.m. while they were conducting a well-being check related to a possible domestic disturbance in the block of 1300 Northeast Shore in Holiday Hills. Peters’ wife and daughter were in the home when the shooting occurred. There were reported to have cooperated with the police.

Peters allegedly shot through a closed door then continued firing a rifle when the door was opened. A third deputy provided cover for the two that were wounded. Peters was probably able to escape while the third deputy gave aid to the two injured deputies.
A male 7-year veteran deputy was listed in critical but stable condition after he was shot in the leg and abdomen. He was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he underwent successful surgery and is recovering in the ICU. A female 12-year veteran deputy was shot in the leg. She was transported to Centegra McHenry Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
The suspect — wanted for two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery — was believed to be in the area of the Holiday Hills subdivision, just west of River Road in unincorporated McHenry County or within the countywide area in or near McHenry County.
Local police, the Illinois State Police, the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force and the FBI responded to assist the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Agencies were using K-9 units and aerial support — searching marshy areas, woods, boats and canvassing homes in neighborhoods.
Peters was captured near Smith Road and Terra Cotta Avenue in Crystal Lake — about six miles southwest of his home where the shootings occurred. He was taken into custody safely without incident sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police are still searching for evidence in the area.
