Four Male Teens Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of Skokie Teen Maxwell Gadau

Four male teens have been arrested and charged with murder connected with the shooting death of Maxwell L. Gadau one week ago. Skokie Police Officers responded on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at approximately 9:41 p.m. to a 9-1-1 call of shots fired in the 9200 block of Kedvale Avenue, Skokie, Illinois. A 17-year-old male identified as Maxwell L. Gadau and 17-year-old female juvenile, both of Skokie, were found with gunshot wounds and transported to Evanston Hospital. Gadau was pronounced dead and the female juvenile remains hospitalized.

On Sunday, October 5, 2014, criminal charges were filed against the following four male teens in connection with this crime:

Dzevad Avdic, 19 years of age, of 5936 S. Honore, Chicago, IL.

Myles Hughes, 19 years of age, of 4270 W. 81st Street, Chicago, IL.

Jeremy Ly, 19 years of age, of 8150 Lowell, Skokie, IL.

Nicholas Smith, 19 years of age, of 3850 W. 84th Street, Chicago, IL.

All four individuals have been arrested, are in police custody and have been charged with the First Degree Murder of Maxwell Gadau and with the Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery of the 17-year-old female in the same case.

Hughes, Ly and Smith were brought before a Cook County bond judge on Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Avdic will be brought before a Cook County bond judge on Monday, October 6, 2014.

According to Skokie police, the quick resolution to this case was brought about by an investigation that involved the dedication, commitment and professionalism of the men and women of the Skokie Police Department, the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, and the Chicago Police Department.

A statement will be provided at the Skokie Police Department on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.

Skokie Police Department reminds the public that neither a complaint nor an indictment is evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
