Schaumburg Police Arrest Two Teens Accused of Damaging 75 Mailboxes, in northwest Schaumburg

Schaumburg police responded about 12:55 AM Sunday to a report of criminal damage to property — mailbox smashing — in the area of Weathersfield Way and Roselle Road Schaumburg, IL. Police received reports that a passenger with a pipe in a white car was damaging mailboxes in the Kingsport subdivision and approximately in the area of Weathersfield Way between Roselle Road and Plum Grove Road, and also northwest of the Kingsport subdivision on Walnut Lane between Schaumburg Road and Bode Road.

Schaumburg police officers were able to quickly locate a vehicle matching the description, and the driver and a passenger — both teens — were taken into custody for investigation.

Early Monday morning the two teens were arrested after Schaumburg police say they smashed as many as 75 mailboxes on the city’s northwest side — 53 mailboxes in Beat 5 and 22 mailboxes in Beat 1.

Eric A. Beck, 19, of Pleasant Drive in Hoffman Estates was charged with multiple counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property. A 17-year-old Hoffman Estates juvenile was also charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

Beck posted $1,500 bond and was released. He is scheduled to return to Rolling Meadows court October 15, 2014.

Schaumburg police remind members of the public that this arrest and complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
