Man Dies After Crashing into Arrow Board Signal Trailer and Truck on Northbound Route 53/I-290 Near Higgins Rd, Schaumburg

Illinois State Police police and Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:30 PM Friday to a fatal crash on I-290 near Higgins Road Schaumburg, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report from Illinois State Police that a driver may have been killed in a crash on northbound IL 53/I-290 near Higgins Road.

Schaumburg firefighters arrived first and report on person dead at the scene. The victim killed in the crash was identified as Richard Velez of West Dundee. Velez was pronounced dead at the scene 8:51 p.m.

The driver apparently hit an Arrow Board Traffic Signal trailer that was connected to a construction fence truck carrying construction barricades. The Yukon Denali apparently bounced of the trailer and truck and came to a rest several feet ahead of the truck.

Elk Grove firefighters also responded and extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of the GM Yukon Denali.
