Abducted Girl Reported to Have Been Shot and Killed After Kansas Police Chase

Leavenworth police chief Patrick Kitchens says it’s unclear who fired the shot that killed a young Kansas girl at the end of a high-speed chase that started after she was reported to have been abducted.

Police report taht, Cadence Harris, age 5, was shot and killed as suspect Marcus McGowan, age 30, engaged in a gun battle with police. A police chase ended after the suspect crashed through barricades and came to a stop near near the intersection of 16th and Metropolitan in Leavenworth, Kansas. The chase began earlier Friday night in Atchison, Kansas, crossed the Missouri River and proceeded into Platte County before ending in a gun battle in Leavenworth near the prison. Police are still investigating to determine what gun killed the child.
