A black bear was spotted Wednesday morning near the intersection of Route 72 and Route 23. Department of Natural Resource officials and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office officials believe the black bear that was first spotted on Memorial Weekend near Rockford. A bear has also been spotted in Roscoe, Illinois. A black bear was also spotted in Sycamore, Illinois about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Media picked up on the sighting last Saturday when a witness photographed the black bear eating berries near a garage.
The bear is believed to be about 6 feet tall when standing on his or her hind legs and weighing about 250 to 300 pounds.

American black bears often mark trees using their teeth and claws as a form of communication. The bear or bears seem to like to eat the contents of bird feeders. Bears are known to eat plants, fruits, nuts, insects, honey, salmon, and small mammals and carrion, Most of the diet of the black bear consists of insects, such as bees, yellow jackets, ants and their larvae
The black bear is the most timid of bear species in North America, and usually avoids people. The species is also known to have the largest distribution of global population of bears.
