Aircraft May Have Never Left Ground in Fatal Crash at Hanscom Field, Bedford, MA

The NTSB is investigating the fiery plane crash in Massachusetts that claim the life of 7 including the Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner. (June 1)

Seven people were killed Saturday night, including a co-owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, when a private jet struck an antenna after attempting to take off, and crashed in flames at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts.

A witness reported the aircraft did not break ground. The aircraft rolled on the ground at the end of the runway, hit a localizer antenna, struck a fence, and came to rest in a gulley. There was significant fire following the crash.

No abnormal communication with the control tower was reported.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on its website Sunday morning that Lewis Katz, 72, a co-owner of the Inquirer and sister newspaper the Phildelphia Daily news, was killed in the aircraft crash.
