Salsa 17 Restaurant Fire on Campbell St Near Vail Ave, Arlington Heights overnight.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:45 AM Tuesday to a report of a restaurant fire at Salsa 17, 17 West Campbell Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that smoke and fire was showing through the roof after passerby Rachel Manno heard an alarm ringing and stopped to investigate. She saw smoke and flames coming from behind Salsa 17 and called 9-1-1. South winds were blowing heavy smoke across Campbell Street, which made it a little difficult for her to breathe when Rachel got out of the car.

Police were first on the scene and reported smoke showing and fire through the roof at the rear of the building.

Firefighters also reported fire though the roof and immediately went to work on an interior attack. Firefighters knocked the main body of fire within about 12 minutes. The fire appeared to involve the kitchen ventilation system, where fire extended to the roof.

Firefighters took the aerial ladder from Tower 1 to the roof and a ground ladder to the east side of the building in the alley. With power saws they cut open the roof for ventilation and exposed areas in the roof that were still burning. The rest of the fire was extinguished within about 35 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Rolling Meadows assisted Arlington Heights firefighters at the scene.

The Village of Arlington Heights Building Department and the Health Department sent out an inspector to check the building.

Firefighters put a good stop on the fire, especially with winds fanning the fire from the South at 16 MPH with gusts to 26 MPH. An alert Rachel Manno’s quick action also brought firefighters to the fire sooner than later, when the fire would have had time to cause a lot more damage.
