Schaumburg Police Rescue Man Reported To Be Trying To Harm Himself on Route 53

Schaumburg and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:45 PM Sunday to IL-53/I-290 Schaumburg, IL to an unknown medical call that turned out to be a psychiatric emergency. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a man was trying to harm himself by getting hit by a car on IL 53/I-290 south of Higgins Road.

Illinois State police, Schaumburg police, Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics, and Elk Grove firefighter/paramedics responded to the call for help.

Schaumburg police had the man in custody by 1:50 p.m.

The man was reported to have been lying down in traffic, but apparently had not been hit by a vehicle on the expressway.

Elk Grove firefighter/paramedics were assigned to the psychiatric emergency on IL-53/I-290.
