Wauconda police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of an apartment home invasion and shooting in the 100 block of South Main Street, Wauconda. A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest during an apparent home invasion after three attackers forced their way into the second floor of an apartment in the 100 block of South Main Street, according to Police Chief Patrick Yost said. Inside the apartment, one of the attackers shot the 26-year-old resident in the chest.

The attackers fled in a dark-colored car, and the shooter and two other offenders are at large.

The 26-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

As of late Sunday night, witnesses had not provided police with detailed descriptions of the attackers, and police were working to find a motive in the home invasion and shooting.

The shooting is the second major shooting incident in Wauconda in less than one month. On Monday, April 7, 2014.
