Commander Huff speaks about large crowds on Welch, and hesitates to call the disturbance a riot. Regarding an injured victim, “It does sound like he was ‘life-flighted’ … I’ve heard that from enough people to believe that it probably true.”

Somehow Ames Police Commander Geoff Huff is not sure whether an injured victim has been “life-flighted” — referring to the possibility that a person was injured seriously enough to require a medical transport helicopter for transportation to a hospital. Not necessarily a criticism of the police commander, but an indication that the chain of command, the communication channels, and situational awareness by public safety personnel is lacking.

Bystanders cheered after witnessing property damage, including the toppling a street lamp.
