Fire at Six Flags Great America Chicago in Gurnee Illinois

#ad▼

Gurnee police and firefighters responded about 9:06 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a fire in an electrical building located next to the Grand Music Hall in Hometown Square. The fire was also reported to be next to a security trailer and a designated smoking area at the amusement park.

When firefighters arrived, the first crews reported that a commercial building had burned almost to the ground, and that the structure was close to “the large theater” — believed to be the Grand Music Hall in Hometown Square. The fire was under control or stopped by 9:21 p.m. Fire command described the building as a “smoking building” (apparently a designated smoking area building) adjacent to the “Music Hall” where firefighters were checking for extension.

A Grayslake ladder truck crew assisted Gurnee firefighters at the scene on initial response, then during overhaul of the fire scene, firefighters from Libertyville, Zion and Mundelein were dispatched for stand-by in Gurnee fire stations to cover the rest of Gurnee in case of other emergencies.

No known injuries were reported.

The first weekend opening for Six Flags Great America is Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10:30 am. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to
