Purdue University Police Chief John Cox says that one person is dead and another is in custody after a shooting on the Indiana campus Tuesday. “This appears to be an isolated and intentional act. The victim appeared to have been targeted by the suspect, and it was no more and no less than that.”

A teaching assistant shot and killed another teaching assistant Tuesday, January 21, 2014 inside Purdue University’s electrical engineering building in a basement. Both men worked for the same professor.

The Indiana school’s police chief reported that the suspect apparently had just one target in mind. The shooter left the building right after the shooting, and he was immediately arrest by police. The suspected gunman arrested is Cody Cousins, a 23-year-old student in Purdue’s college of engineering. Cousins is “booked on a preliminary charge of murder,” according to the police chief.

West Lafayette police also executed a search warrant on Cousins’ home, with city police Chief Jason Dombkowski. Cody Cousins’ only previous arrest were alcohol-related.

Police Chief John Cox identified the victim as Andrew Boldt, a 21-year-old senior from West Bend, Wisconsin
