Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:28 PM Thursday to a report of a house fire at 415 Cherry Creek Ln Prospect Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a house was on fire with two people inside the house. A father and son escaped from the fire after attempting to extinguish the fire in a home office. The fire quickly engulfed the room and began to spread to other rooms.

Arlington Heights Fire Engine 4 stationed on Arlington Heights Road, just north of Hintz Road responded on an automatic aid agreement with Prospect Heights, and was first on the scene. Firefighters lead out with a hose line and rushed up to the second floor over the garage to attack the fire.

The neighborhood is not supplied with hydrants. Arlington Heights Engine 4 carries 500 gallons and is emptied within a few minutes without a connection to a hydrant. Prospect Heights Tanker 9 brought 3,000 gallons of water which was connected to AHFD Engine 4, which kept the water on the attack. Long Grove Tanker 55, and Palatine Rural FPD 36 also brought water, as a 5-inch line of house was connected to a hydrant across Hintz Road. A witness reported seeing Engine 9 or Tanker 9 drop hose, as planned, a good distance from the fire scene on Schoenbeck Road near Hintz Road, and continue on toward the fire — continuing to drop hose along the way.

The initial aggressive attack from Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights firefighters and the coordination of continuous water supply from the tanker crews stopped the fire from causing much more devastating damage. Firefighters had fire conditions over their heads during the interior attack. For a short period the fire erupted through a vent in the roof over the garage.

The fire response was elevated to a MABAS Box Alarm about 7:00 p.m. because of continuous smoke conditions throughout the house, and uncertainty whether the fire was spreading through the attic or other hidden spaces. The Box Alarm was struck out at about 7:59 p.m.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield-Bannockburn, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township, Glenview, Northbrook, Palatine, and Wheeling assisted Prospect Heights firefighters at the scene. Firefighters from Glenview, Niles, North Maine Township, and Rolling Meadow stood by in Prospect Heights fire stations to be in position to protect the city from any additional fires.

An extra alarm for police presence was also activated for traffic control because of the hose lines across the roads. Police officers from Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, and Wheeling assisted Prospect Heights police officers with traffic control.
