Non-Tornado Storm Damage Report For Chicago And Suburbs; Moving Jeep Cherokee Hit By Large Tree and More

Hoffman Estates firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:50 PM Sunday to a report of power lines down at Palatine Road and Thornbark Drive, Hoffman Estates, IL. Firefighters blocked much of the roadways in the area with power lines down on both sides of Palatine Road.

Additional reports of power lines trouble and other property damage were reported throughout the City of Chicago and suburbs. Most of the non-tornado damage in the area was associated with cold front gusts after the thunderstorms had already passed.


In Chicago, a no injuries were reported when one person was in a Jeep Cherokee driving near 120th Street and Stewart, and the Jeep Cherokee was hit by a large tree. Firefighters help get the person out of the SUV.

Prospect Heights firefighters also responded to a line down with a small fire at 710 Glendale in Prospect Heights.

A branch also caused an arcing power line in 20663 William Avenue for a branch on a power line.

Wheeling firefighters reported a tree in flames with an arcing wire on King Court.

A building at 254 12th Street in Wheeling also was found with fascia torn off of the building.

Also in Wheeling the Canadian National railroad gates at Dundee Road were broken by the wind.

Firefighters reported two power lines down at 1810 Sanders in Northbrook.

Short-term flooding was also reported near St. Edna’s Catholic Church and McDonald’s on Arlington Heights Road near Palatine Road.

Northbrook firefighters also responded to a person stuck in an elevator because of a power outage at 1342 Shermer at Little Louie’s.

Several other reports of power lines down were also reported. An arcing wire was reported in front of Sunset Foods on Route 83, but firefighters did not find a problem.

A light pole was also reported blown down near Palatine Road and Route 53.
