Norovirus Outbreak at Edison Middle School in Wheaton

A reported stomach flu outbreak Edison Middle School in Wheaton this week was caused by the norovirus, a contagious virus that causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are working closely with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as well as District 200 and Edison Middle School officials toward control and prevention of disease transmission,” according to a letter to parents on Thursday.

The number of absences at Edison on Monday spiked to 465 out of the 706 enrolled students. On Tuesday, there were 180 students absent.

The Sickweather.com map had on individual report, but did not detect any social media “storm activity.”
