Extra Traffic Enforcement Activities Ongoing Through Labor Day, Monday September 1st

The Arlington Heights Police Department commence specialized traffic enforcement activities relating to the Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” holiday enforcement campaigns from August 16, 2013 through Labor Day there is a 16-day period of extra traffic enforcement across the Village of Arlington Heights. Enforcement activities include numerous seatbelt enforcement zones, impaired driving saturation patrols, and a Roadside Safety Checkpoint. The checkpoint took place on Friday, August 16, 2013 on Arlington Heights Road south of Algonquin Road.

Officers working the campaigns attempt to identify and cite motorists who choose to drive without using their safety belts, are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or are committing other traffic-related offenses.

The campaigns are funded with federal traffic safety funds, which are administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation – Division of Traffic Safety.

The Arlington Heights Police Department’s most recent enforcement campaign was completed relating to IDOT’s designated Independence Day Holiday Enforcement Campaign. The campaign began June 28, 2013 and ended July 7, 2013. During the campaign, two Roadside Safety Checkpoints and a DUI Roving Saturation Patrol were conducted. The primary focus was to identify and apprehend motorists who chose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, without using their safety belts, or were committing licensing, equipment or other miscellaneous Illinois Vehicle Code traffic violations.

Enforcement activities resulted in the following cumulative arrests and citations:

2 = Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (DUI)
1 = Driving While License Suspended/Revoked
4 = Unlicensed Driving
10 = No Insurance
10 = Safety Belt Usage / Child Restraint
18 = Registration-related
32 = Equipment-related
30 = Other Miscellaneous Traffic Violations

The Arlington Heights Police Department is committed to traffic safety and will continue to be an active participant in IDOT’s grant program by participating in the upcoming “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday enforcement campaign for Labor Day.
