Scotland Yard Examining New Information In Case of Crash Death of Princess Diana in 1997

CNN’s Atika Shubert reports on new information in the death of Princess Diana.

The case of the death investigation of has not been re-opened, but Scotland Yard is examining the “relevance and credibility” of newly received information relating the deaths of Diana and her companion, Dodi Fayed, and the car’s driver Henri Paul, in a car crash in a Paris traffic tunnel, the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, on Aug. 31, 1997. Trevor Rees-Jones, a bodyguard was the sole survivor of the crash.

Crash at 12:23 a.m.

First police on scene at 12:30 a.m.

Princess Diana extricated from vehicle 1:00 a.m. (feet trapped).

Princess Diana transferred to the SAMU ambulance (Service d’Aide Médicale Urgente) at 1:18 a.m.

SAMU ambulance departs for hospital at 1:41 a.m.

SAMU ambulance arrives at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital at 2:06 am

Princess Diana pronounced dead at 4:00 a.m. The prominent cause of death was believed to be trauma to the heart, which tore the pulmonary vein and the pericardium — the lining surrounding the heart.

The case has previously been summarized as an unlawful killing caused by negligent behavior of the driver and people following the driver of Princess Diana’s car.
