Woodstock police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:25 PM Sunday to a minivan-motorcycle crash at US 14 and Dean Street, Woodstock, IL. Arlington Heights Park District employee Patrick J. Lulling was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision occurred when Lulling, age 54, was traveling eastbound on US 14 and went through a red light while a white 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was westbound on US 14 and making a left turn to southbound Dean Street.

Lulling hit the passenger side of the minivan.

The driver of the minivan, Glenn L. Powers, was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, where he was treated and released. Power was issued a citation for failure to yield in a left turn at an intersection.

The crash is still under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Dean Street is one of the main streets into downtown Woodstock from US 14.

Lulling was a well-respected general trades worker or the Arlington Heights Park District. He was returning from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota.

Ironically, the South Dakota Highway Patrol reported fewer fatalities in the Sturgis and Rapid City area compared to 2012. There were nine fatalities in the area of the rally in 2012, and there were six fatalities this year in 2013. The total tally of crashes during the rally was 69, which was up from last year’s total of 50.

This year was the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills, which started Monday, August 5, 2013 and finished Sunday, August 11, 2013. The event draws hundreds of thousands of people each year.
