Here is the Fourth of July fireworks guide for residents and visitors near Arlington Heights. Note that Palatine’s fireworks display is Friday, July 5, 2013; and Wheeling’s fireworks display is TONIGHT — Wednesday, July 3, 2013. If you have to be at Frontier Days late on the Fourth of July, it might be easier to get to the Mount Prospect fireworks display at Melas Park. Mount Prospect has two displays — one on the Fourth of July and one on Sunday, July 7, 2013.
Many locals avoid entering Melas Park, and set up their lawn chairs and blankets along Northwest Highway near the Davis Street underpass, but road construction along Northwest Highway this year could produce a traffic nightmare and cause dust to fly in the area. Plus some favorite viewpoints spots might be disrupted by excavation.

Many people set their blankets and lawn chairs just outside Arlington Park for a spectacular free display of the Arlington Park fireworks. Many locals view along Northwest Highway near Wilke Road … or all along Wilke Road, just south of Arlington Park … or near Trackside along Euclid Avenue at the northwest corner of Wilke Road and Euclid Avenue … or at the Cook County Circuit Court lawn at the southwest corner of Euclid Avenue and Wilke Road.
UNOFICIAL Arlington Heights location at Nickol Knoll/Payton Hill. For a little quieter setting, people perch on top of Nickol Knoll and Payton Hill at 3800 North Kennicott Avenue, just northeast of Route 53 and Dundee Road. Buffalo Grove’s fireworks display is the closest and provides the biggest booms, but you can see about 20 or more different fireworks displays — depending on visibility. It’s fun to guess what city fireworks you are seeing. If the night sky is clear enough, you can also see a beautiful view of the City of Chicago skyline and even lakefront fireworks at Navy Pier and all along the north shore.
