VIDEO: Flood scenes near Buffalo Creek, near St Marys Parkway and Raupp Boulevard, and just south of Lake Cook Road near Raupp Boulevard.

Firefighters called for a Box Alarm for boats and swift water techs to help evacuate neighbors along St Marys Boulevard just west of Raupp Boulevard. Three children were also found playing in a playground near swift water, just south of the baseball fields at Lake Cook Road and west of Raupp Boulevard. Police and firefighters escorted the children out of the dangerous water.

Firefighters from Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows and other agencies assisted Buffalo Grove firefighters.

Buffalo Creek is a tributary of the Des Plaines River that begins in Lake Zurich and flows about 11 miles mainly southeastward through Kildeer, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling. In Wheeling, Buffalo Creek is named Wheeling Drainage Ditch. Buffalo Grove Creek runs just north of Chicago Executive Airport and joins the Des Plaines River just south of the intersection of Hintz Road and Milwaukee Avenue.

Buffalo Creek has a sharp bend just south of Lake Cook Road just west of Raupp Boulevard. At least one neighbor reported that original homeowners in the area told him that the creek bend was modified for construction of homes in the neighborhood.

The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Illinois. Des Plaines River near Des Plaines affecting Cook County. Fox River at Montgomery affecting Kane and Kendall counties Fox River at Algonquin Tailwater affecting Kane and Mchenry counties.

At 8:45 am Thursday the stage was 7.0 feet.
Flood stage is 5.0 feet.
Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
Forecast: The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by this evening.
Impact: At 7.0 feet, water on pavement of 1700 block of Busse Highway, at River Rd and Gregory, Central Road, and Big Bend Drive.
