Class No. 17 of the Arlington Heights Citizen Police Academy held its graduation ceremony in the Council Chamber of the Village Hall on Tuesday May 21, 2013. The graduation ceremony was attended by both newly elected Mayor Thomas Hayes and Chief of Police Gerald Mourning and followed a drug detection and apprehension demonstration by the Police Department’s K-9 Officer Max. In addition to welcoming 24 new class graduates, Class No. 17 uniquely recognized the participation of three married couples and a pair of alumni class family members.

Applications for the fall session of the Citizen Police Academy are currently available through the Village of Arlington Heights website at VAH.COM or through the Police Department’s Information Desk at 200 E. Sigwalt St. The fall academy class is scheduled to begin in September and run through November of 2013. Favorite classroom topics regularly range from patrol operations and criminal investigations to forensic sciences, financial crimes and SWAT tactics. Questions about academy programs and class applications should be directed to Officer Robert Kostka at (847) 368-5390.
