Full Moon Super Moon with a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse Tonight

May’s Full Moon is known as the Flower Moon, Rose Moon or Strawberry Moon.

Tonight’s Moon is a Supermoon, but it also has the distinction of having one of the slightest eclipses of all — a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. You might notice a slight darkness on the face of the Moon at peak about 11:11 p.m. Central Daylight Time. the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse is given actually May 25, 2013 in Universal Time (0415 UT).

A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon’s disk as seen from Earth.

The biggest Supermoon of the year is June 23, 2013 at 6:32 a.m. Central Daylight Time.
