Six Injured, Including Girl with Spinal Injury, When Strong Winds Blow Carpatair ATR-72 Off Runway at Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, Rome

Six injured as strong winds force plane off the runway at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome.

An ATR-72 turboprop plane belonging to Romanian carrier Carpatair, but operating in Alitalia colours, went off the runway after landing in strong winds at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport on Saturday.

Six people were injured, among them a girl with a spinal injury who was transported to the Gemelli hospital by ambulance.

The plane was traveling from Pisa-Galileo Airport to Rome when the crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. EST.

ATR and Airbus are built in Toulouse, France and share resources and technology. The ATR-72 is a short trip, regional airliner.
