FOOD4LESS: Fire in the Aisles of a Grocery Store in Elk Grove

UPDATE: Pamela A. Dinter, 58, of Elk Grove Village, was charged with one count of aggravated arson for the fire at the Food 4 Less grocery store. Because of damaged inventory, loss could be as high as $1.2 million.

Elk Grove Village Fire Department is fighting a fire in the aisles of a grocery store at 901 Meacham Road. There is a 10-foot stack of boxes on fire in the middle and back of the store. The grocery store fire was reported about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

At least one victim of smoke inhalation reported and being treated at the scene in a paramedic ambulance.

Firefighters are moving through the store and knocking down the fire in the aisle. Customers are being evacuated into the parking lot. Two ladder truck companies are ventilating the roof and fire engines are connecting to the store’s sprinkler system to add additional water to the fire. Firefighters are also breaking the store’s front windows for additional ventilation of the store’s interior.

Fire departments from Hoffman Estates, Itasca, Roselle, and Rosemont are assisting Elk Grove Fire Department.
