Seastreak Wall Street Ferry Crash, 93 Injured at Pier 11, in New York City

WABC-TV VIDEO: FDNY firefighters removed passengers from a New York ferry after it suffered what was being called a hard landing near Wall Street. Early reports say a number of people have minor injuries.

The Seastreak Ferry is reported to have made a hard landing at Pier 11 at about 7:45 a.m. ET Wednesday. As many as 50 are reported injured, but New York Fire Department initially reported that 17 were injured. At least one person is reported to be critically injured at the mass casualty incident in New York at Pier 11. Several people were thrown into glass, and Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal on scene reported passengers said there was a lot of blood visible on the ferry. The last of the injured were transported away from the scene at about 10:15 a.m. People were reported to have been thrown forward when the ferry hit the pier. Eleven people were seriously injured. Over 300 people were on board. The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene.

According to their official website, Seastreak provides daily year-round ferry services from Atlantic Highlands and Conners Highlands, NJ, to Pier 11 Wall Street, East 35th Street, and shuttle service to the World Financial Center.

According to the Seastreak website schedule, a ferry was due to arrive at 7:40 a.m. from Conner’s Highland (departing at 6:40 a.m.) and Atlantic Highlands (departing 7:00 a.m.).

The ferry that is damaged is the largest ship of the Seastreak fleet — built by Gladding-Hearn. The ferry has a capacity of 505 passengers and crew. The ship is 140.7 feet long and 34.22 feet wide.

Pier 11/Wall Street is a pier providing docks and slips to ferries and excursion boats on the East River in the Port of New York and New Jersey.

SeaStreak catamarans also operate daily to the Raritan Bayshore in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
