Crash In Dense Fog Kills 2, Injures 120 on Interstate 10 Near Beaumont, Texas

At least two people died and dozens were hurt when at least 100 vehicles collided in Southeast Texas in a pileup that left trucks twisted on top of each other and authorities rushing to pull survivors from the wreckage.

A crash involving as many as 100 vehicles occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 10 southwest of Beaumont, Texas, and is reported to have killed two people and injured up to 120.

The crash, which occurred in extremely dense fog on Thanksgiving morning, involved cars, SUVs, a charter bus and several semi-trailer trucks. Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Stephanie Davis reported that two people in an SUV died after the crash.

Of the 120 people injured, 51 required hospitalization, eight people critically injured.

I-10 was closed in both directions west of Beaumont near Hampshire Road. Shortly after noon, westbound lanes reopened to traffic. Eastbound lanes were still closed after noon for cleanup and investigation.
