Third Fatal Shooting Victim in Rogers Park Neighborhood in a Month, Chicago

MAN, AGE 24, SHOT ON LOYOLA PARK BIKE PATH

Chicago police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 10:20 p.m. Monday October 1, 2018 to a report of a shooting on the Loyola Park bike path near Lunt Avenue in Rogers Park in Chicago.

Upon arrival Chicago police, firefighters and paramedics discovered that a man was shot and killed along the bike path, according to Chicago police. Witnesses, who heard the gunshots, told police the victim was walking along the bike path when the shots were fired.

The victim was a 24-year-old man, who was shot in the head, and pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of the man as Eliyahu Moscowicz.

The police investigation involves determining whether he was the intended victim or a victim caught in crossfire. Police did not discover signs of a robbery, and the victim is believed to have had all of his belongings on him.

The shooting occurred less than 2800 feet from the block of 1400 Sherwin Avenue, where a 73-year-old man was shot and killed on Sunday, September 30, 2018. The Sherwin Avenue shooting near Sheridan Road was believed to be a robbery.

Pastor John Elleson of Lakewood Chapel arrived at the scene to help provide support for people at the scene.

The two shootings in Rogers Park follow the shooting of Northwestern University PhD psychology student Shane Colombo, who was shot in the abdomen and killed by a stray bullet in the Rogers Park neighborhood Sunday September 2, 2018. Colombo was only in the City of Chicago four hours when he was hit while walking near Clark Street and Howard Street.

All three shootings, within a one month time period, occurred outdoors. Loyola Park is located in the middle of the Lake Michigan shoreline border of Rogers Park neighborhood.
