Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:42 p.m. Sunday to a rollover crash in the 800 block of Estes Avenue. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car flipped in a crash and ended upside-down with a tree on top of the bottom of the car. Firefighters also received a report that the vehicle was leaking gasoline.

Police arrived just before firefighters and advised the driver was pinned in the car, and that the car was leaking gasoline. Firefighters discovered the leak was from the gas cap of a 1967 Chevy Camaro SS, which is located at the center of the rear trunk area of the vehicle. Firefighters were unable to stop the leak from the gas cap area.

Firefighters needed to cut away a downed tree that was on top of the vehicle in order to access the driver of the car. Paramedics accessed the patient — a male possibly in his 30’s — about 12:58 p.m. He was extricated within a few minutes.

There was a heavy odor from the active leak of gasoline, and firefighters were ready with a hose line in case of ignition.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital — possibly Alexian Brothers Medical Center. At first impression, injuries did not seem to be major, but a hospital visit was necessary to rule out or treat trauma from the serious crash.

An Elk Grove Village Police Department accident investigation team was put to work on the crash. The roadway is a wide commercial avenue in a warehouse-factory zoning area of Elk Grove Village. Traffic is presumably light on Sunday.
