Law officers from several Kane County police departments and the Kane County sheriff’s police department were in a car pursuit with a green Infinity 4-door with tinted windows Thursday afternoon about 4:07 p.m. The chase was northbound on Dunham Road and heading eastbound on Stearns Road, when the offender’s vehicle blew a tire or an engine. The offender was reported to be driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Stearns Road. The suspect bailed from the vehicle after the blown tire, and the pursuit converted to a foot chase about 4:09 p.m. at Stearns Road east of Dunham Road near Wayne and South Elgin. The suspect headed north into a field with heavy brush and wooded area north of Stearns Road. Two children were found safe in the suspect’s vehicle.

Wayne police and possibly St. Charles police had responded to a domestic dispute, when the man fled. Kane County sheriff picked up the pursuit a short time later.

Both an Illinois State Police helicopter and CBS 2 helicopter assisted with an aerial search of the area. Bartlett police, South Elgin police and Elgin police also assisted in the search and perimeter. A K-9 search focused on north and east toward the James “Pate” Philip State park. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has an office in the area. The Illinois Prairie Path connects with the state park and heads north toward South Elgin, east of Route 25 (Dunham Road). Route 25 is also Stearns Road for a short leg west of the Dunham Road intersection.

The offender was described as a male/Hispanic 6’1″ 250 LBS, about 31-years-old, buzz cutt, wearing green and black striped shorts and a white tank top. He was possibly armed with a handgun — possibly a 32 caliber.

Roadways in the area and the Illinois Prairie Path in the area were in the during the search and guarding of the perimeter.
