Black Hawk Helicopters on Training Mission in Downtown Chicago

The City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications announced Monday that Chicago would be the site of a military training exercise this week involving personnel and at least three helicopters.

Witnesses reported Monday that low-flying helicopters were maneuvering between high-rises while flying downtown. Personnel on board the aircraft appeared to be carrying heavily armed near the opening of the aircraft.

Arlington Heights police have also been notified by military officials that the former Chicago Sheraton Northwest hotel high rise will also be used for training maneuvers on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Training operations are likely at night.

Black Hawk helicopter have been observed on training drills in Los Angeles and Boston recently — part of similar training missions in major cities. A witness reported the training mission lasted four days in Los Angeles.
