With news that bodies are piling up at the Cook County Morgue, one body from Arlington Heights — actually partially from Arlington Heights — was discussed by Arlington Heights police Comdr. Kenneth Galinski with Sun-Times Media reporter Lauren FitzPatrick.

The lower half of the body of a Hispanic man was found about one block north of Mariano’s Fresh Market April, 16, 2010 behind the Market View Apartments — before the grocery store was opened in the summer of 2010.

The upper half was found Thursday, May 16, 2012 along the Des Plaines River in Lions Woods near Golf Road and Des Plaines River Road.

The DNA from the severed body parts has been taken and submitted to databases. The body parts were photographed, including extensive shots of his three tattoos. Police hope hope the information will someday help them learn his identity, said Galinski, who questioned why the body would still be at the morgue.

“I don’t know why they need to keep it,” he said. “I can’t see any other benefit to it.”

As of Jan. 9, 2012 the Cook County morgue had 29 bodies more than a year old, one from 2008, two from 2009 and 26 from 2010.

Investigators search the parking lot where the lower half of a body was found on Friday, April 16, 2012.
