News Outlets Vox and ProPublica Are Under Fire for Trying to Humanize MS-13 Members

American Majority CEO Ned Ryun on how Vox and ProPublica are under fire for downplaying the threat posed by MS-13, describing the gang as strictly an “American problem” on The Evening Edit on Fox Business with Elizabeth McDonald.

In Suffolk County, New York between Jan 2016 and June 2017 MS-13 was responsible for 40 percent of the murders, according to American Majority CEO Ned Ryun.

Ned Ryun is former presidential writer for George W. Bush and the founder and CEO of American Majority, a conservative organization that identifies and trains candidates and activists who want to become involved in local government, school district governance, or state legislatures. Ned Ryun, a and the son of former Republican U.S. Congressman Jim Ryun. American Majority has headquarters in Purcellville, Virginia. The conservative organization conducts trainings across the country and has offices in Vermont and Wisconsin. The Wisconsin office in October 2010.

Vox is known for explanatory journalism (explaining what happened in the news story) which included a YouTube video on its YouTube channel of the same name. Vox was founded in 2014 by Melissa Bell, Matthew Yglesias, and Ezra Klein. Vox is lead by Lauren Williams, editor-in-chief. Ezra Klein’s opening editorial essay in 2014, “How politics makes us stupid”, explained his distress about political polarization in the context of Yale Law School professor Dan Kahan’s theories on how people protect themselves from information that conflicts with their core beliefs.

Vox Media, which was founded by political strategist Jerome Armstrong, freelance writer Tyler Bleszinski, and Markos Moulitsas (creator of Daily Kos) in 2005 as SportsBlogs, Inc., is the parent company of the sports blog network SB Nation, and is also the parent company of Vox.

ProPublica was formed by Democratic donors, Center for the American Progress founders, and billionaire Golden West Financial Corporation CEOs Herbert and Marion Sandler. The Sandlers committed $10 million a year to ProPublica. The Sandlers hired Paul Steiger, former managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, to create and run ProPublica as editor in chief.
