Sacha Baron Cohen’s crashes the Oscars red carpet as “The Dictator” and surprises Ryan Seacrest by dusting him with ‘ashes’ from Kim Jong-il.

At the Academy Awards red carpet event, Sacha Baron Cohen’s character “Admiral General Aladeen” claimed he was carrying the ashes of recently departed North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il — saying it was Kim Jong-il’s dream to come to the Oscars.

See what happens when Ryan Seacrest interviews the actor as “The Dictator”–and gets “ashes” spilled on him on live TV!

The Academy had originally banned Baron Cohen from appearing in character at the ceremony, but reluctantly agreed to the publicity stunt.

The publicity stunt was staged for the upcoming film ‘The Dictator’ about the Republic of Wadiya, due to be released Summer of 2012.

On February 24, 2012, Admiral General Aladeen appeared live on NBC’s Today Show with Matt Lauer’s cleaning lady, Ann Curry and the eunoch Al Roker.

Judging from comments on various articles and YouTube videos about ‘The Dictator,’ there’s a significant divide on how people feel about his humor.

Strangely, several videos from the movie’s official YouTube channel are not viewable in the United States.
