About 200 Chicago firefighters and Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to a 3-11 alarm fire at 2626 West Roosevelt that was request at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters originally responded to the large abandoned factory on fire at about 7:30 p.m. A 2-11 alarm was called shortly before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters fought the fire defensively from the outside with ladder towers including six master streams. Firefighters noted progress about 8:40 p.m., and were able to enter the rear of the building with caution. The building has a dangerous roof structure known as a bowstring truss roof, that is prone to collapse in fires.
A HazMat was requested to protect nearby railroad cars as a precaution. The railroad cars were moved away from the heat and fire at the building.
The 3-11 alarm was declared struck out about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
No known injuries were reported.
