Garage Fire with Explosion on Mineral Springs Drive, McHenry Investigated

#ad▼

McHenry Township Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:10 p.m. to 411 North Mineral Springs Drive to a report of an explosion inside a garage with a fire. Firefighters confirmed they had a working fire as they approached the scene. No injuries were initially reported.

Firefighters stop the fire in the attached garage before it spread to the house. The garage, which was located at the front of the house, was declared a total loss. The house is located on a cul-de-sac next to the Fox River. Firefighting on a cul-de-sac can be more difficult because fire equipment can only access the scene from one direction near a fire scene.

There were no fire hydrants nearby, resulting in firefighters using one or more tankers or tenders to transport water near the scene. McHenry Township Fire Protection District fire command activated a MABAS Change of Quarters Box Alarm to assign firefighter/paramedics to cover McHenry fire stations to protect the rest of the community during any other potential emergencies while firefighters extinguished the garage fire. The fire was extinguished by about 5:40 p.m.

The fire and explosion, which knocked one wall of the garage about one foot off the foundation is under investigation.

MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm on Box #5-1273 for a garage fire with explosion.
