Transformer Fire Fueled by 35,000 of Mineral Oil on Pinnacle Peak Rd in Phoenix Area

Fire crews are battling a massive transformer fire inside an APS substation in Phoenix. Fire Capt. Scott Walker tells The Associated Press about 35,000 gallons of mineral oil in the substation will likely burn for hours.

Phoenix Fire Department responded about 10 p.m. Monday west of 76th Street and Pinnacle Peak Road to a large transformer fire at an APS substation. East Pinnacle Road was blocked between Scottsdale Road and Tatum Boulevard.

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is monitoring air quality. The disabled transformer is not causing any power outages.
