Twenty-seven Bally Total Fitness clubs in Illinois will become LA Fitness facilities on December 1, 2011. Nationwide, 171 Bally Total Fitness clubs are being sold to Fitness International LLC, an affiliate of LA Fitness International LLC. The sale is expected to be finalized on November 30, 2011.
Before the sale, Bally’s is reported to have owned 271 fitness clubs in the United States. All clubs involved in the transaction are in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and the District of Columbia, all clubs in the greater Los Angeles area, specific locations in New Jersey, (Deptford, East Brunswick, Echelon, Maple Shade and Union City), specific locations in New York (Copiague, Lake Grove and Levittown), specific locations in Texas (Meadow Creek and Red Bird) and specific locations in Virginia (Falls Church, Landmark, Pentagon Square, and Prince William Crossing).
All other clubs will continue to be operated by Bally under the Bally name.
LA Fitness already has 20 locations in Illinois.
