A Bizarre Day Before Thanksgiving: Police Chasing a Chihuahua on the Train Tracks, and Woman Throws Oxygen Tanks at Husband

Animal stories dominate a bizarre day this Wednesday before Thanksgiving in the Northwest suburbs. Today’s B-shift on the police force started abruptly.

Wednesday morning several dogs were running loose, including one little Chihuahua that had police chasing him down the railroad tracks in Arlington Heights near Euclid Avenue and Northwest Highway about 8:45 a.m.

Police reported the dog was on the tracks and looked like he was going to stay on the tracks. Then he took off northbound on Harvard from Northwest Highway. Somebody else called in and thought the dog was a Boston Terrier — last seen near Ridge and Elm. Metra was alerted to be on the lookout for the 2-on-4 foot pursuit near the tracks.

Next a gas station clerk called in to report that a man stole a hot dog.

An injured kitten was found missing one leg.

A woman in Buffalo Grove reported two coyotes hanging around six children playing at a playground.

This afternoon Arlington Heights police received a report about 3:11 p.m. of a domestic dispute when a husband called to report that his 65-year-old wife was throwing her oxygen tank at him at their home on North Dunton Avenue.

A witness reported about 4:22 p.m. Wednesday that a 65-year-old man was seen kicking a puppy in the front yard in the 1300 block of South Harvard Avenue. The witness reported the man has a history of having a bad temper.
