Author Walter Isaacson — the biographer of “Steve Jobs” due to be published Monday — says Jobs came up with the Apple Computer name while he was on a diet of fruits and vegetables. Isaacson reports that Steve Jobs delayed surgery for nine months after learning in October 2003 that he had a neuroendocrine tumor — a rare type of pancreatic cancer that can be more treatable because it usually grows more slowly than other tumors.

According to the biography, Steve Jobs tried a vegan diet, acupuncture, herbal remedies and other treatments he found online, while avoiding recommended surgery. He also was influenced by a doctor who ran a clinic that advised juice fasts, bowel cleansings and other unproven approaches, and even consulted a psychic, before finally having surgery in July 2004.

Also in the book, Isaacson reports that Jobs was livid in January 2010 when HTC introduced an Android phone that included many of the popular features of the iPhone. Jobs told Isaacson that Google’s actions amounted to “grand theft.” Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google was an Apple board member from 2006 to 2009. Presumably, he would have had much insight into the development of Apple iPhone features.

In efforts to settle, Steve Jobs did not want money. He wanted Google to stop using the Apple iPhone features in the Android operating system.
